'Independence Day 2' News, Rumors: How Big Is Mothership Going To Be In 'Resurgence' Sequel?

Before any of the rumors create confusion, director Roland Emmerich gave the idea of how big the mothership is goingn to be in "Independence Day 2: Resurgence."

"The Mothership comes to Earth and it spans the Atlantic Ocean," he told the entertainment news site, EW.

While humanity has learned its lessons from the events in the 1996 film, "Independence Day," and harnessed alien technology to create even more modern weapons, the aliens have also adjusted.

"I always say, it's a post-war world. We call [the first movie] the War of '96. Which we won! But it's also kind of clear that they were going to come back. So we've stayed unified," he said. "In these days when our world is so not united, this is a very poignant thing to do in a movie. To show how much we can accomplish."

Meanwhile, the teaser showed that Dr. Brackish Okun, who was previously presumed to have died in the laboratory, actually survived the alien attack and is back in "Independence Day 2: Resurgence."

"Okun is the bearer of bad news as he informs those in charge that all of the aliens in human captivity aren't wailing in pain... they're making a racket because they're celebrating," the Games Radar news article noted.

The synopsis for "Independence Day 2: Resurgence" reads:

"Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet," the synopsis reads. "But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."
