Hundreds Gather and Pray For Rain in Austin Texas During Drought and Rainfall Comes Down Like Never Before (VIDEO)
Hundreds of Christians spent a day fasting and praying for it to rain in Austin, Texas after a massive drought, and just days after the residents were given a miracle from the sky.
The drought was getting so bad that a pastor from Austin Christian Fellowship gathered a few believers and made a video informing others of how bad the drought really was. The pastor also prayed a city council meeting for rain and city officials would help the pastor declare May 22 a day of fasting and praying for rain.
"I believe that God can do big things and I believe he's going to do it," Emily Davis, an Austin resident, told KTBC-TVÂ before the rain came.
Since the rainfall, Lake Travis is up 2 1/2 feet and Lake Buchanan is up 1 1/2 feet, according to the Associated Press. Both bodies of water remain way below their average levels but the sudden rain has people in Austin believing that God can do that also.
Meteorologist Bob Rose told KTBC that May is actually the month when rain usually comes down, but he noted this particular rainfall has been much higher than normal in some areas.
"I speak from the scientific side right now and I'm looking at all the charts and seeing how the atmosphere behaves," he said. "Our average rainfall around this area is about five inches, so in some spots rainfall has actually been above normal for the month of May."
Rose continued, "Whatever people are doing, that could bring this rain into the area, keep it up. Do it even more."
The believers at Hyde Park Baptist Church are hoping the levels will continue to go up all the way to the fill line, which is 681 feet.
