Hugh Jackman News, Rumors: Jerry Seinfeld Influenced the Actor to Drop Wolverine Role? [VIDEO]

Hugh Jackman has most certainly defined the role as the world's favorite X-Men for well over a decade and his decision to walk away from the role following his last solo film is going to be a hard blow for diehard fans.

The actor officially announced his last reprisal over a month ago, but it was until now that fans knew what brought Jackman to the final deliberation. It was quite an abrupt statement, especially after only being a couple weeks after he publicly stated that he wanted to play the role as long as humanly possible.

"I said to my wife, 'The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I've got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.' I know that someday they'll recast the role with another actor... I'd be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic," Jackman stated in an interview with Cigar Aficionado.

It has now however become evident that it was comedian Jerry Seinfeld that ultimately influenced the actor to put down the claws for good.

"I was having a chat with [Seinfeld] about a year ago, at his birthday, and he was talking about why he finished [the NBC Seinfeld show]," Jackman explained in an appearance on Live with Michael and Kelly. "He said, he'd always had this feeling and belief that you never know when either your energy or the audience's energy is going to dip over into people [saying] 'Oh, please go.'"

Jackman clarified that while he loved playing the character, Seinfeld's words resonated with him and brought him to his decision.

"It's the greatest feeling," he said. "I'm more excited about this movie than ever before, and I just know in my gut it's the right thing. Hopefully in five years, I'm not coming back here going 'Why did I do that?'"

'The Wolverine 2' is set for release on March 3, 2017.
