Huge Budget Biblical Epics Make Hollywood Return with 2014's "Son of God"

A new movie about Jesus that is based on the TV series "The Bible" is set to debut in 2014. The movie, "Son of God," is being distributed by 20th Century Fox. "Son of God" was put into production after the massive success of "The Bible" TV series that aired on the History Channel. The series ended with a 2 hour long finale that earned extremely high ratings. It was the History Channel's most watched show of all time and earned three Emmy nominations.

Breaitbart News assistant editor Christian Toto told Newsmax, "There are people out there who are deeply religious and they look at the Cineplex and say there is nothing there for me, whether it's too violent, there are too many anti-heroes, or a general suspicion of Hollywood that has not catered to that audience for a long time. Faith-based films, up until recently, have been on a small scale with no big star, and yet they have been doing quite well at the box office. I think Hollywood is awakening to the fact that this is profitable. I think 'The Bible's' showing made that clear."

The budget for "Son of God" is a whopping $125 million, which some say is a huge gamble for the story. Some cite "The Passion of the Christ" and its massive $612 million worldwide earnings as reason to fund a film of this magnitude.

Another similar film in development is the story of Cain and Abel called "The Redemption of Cain." Will Smith is going to direct the Bible classic.
