HTC One M8 Windows Phone 8.1 Release Date, Price, Specs Rumors: Same Device New OS, $99 From Verizon

HTC unveiled its latest flagship smartphone the HTC One M8 for Windows at an event in New York on Tuesday, Aug. 19. This handset is same as the previously launched HTC One M8, with the only difference being that it runs on Windows Phone 8.1. The handset became available at the retails across the United States starting Wednesday for $99 via Verizon.

So far, only Nokia, which is currently owned by Microsoft, has been launching Windows-based phones, while others like Samsung, LG and HTC have been delivering smartphones running on Google's Android OS. Nevertheless, things are changing gradually, as HTC launches its first handset that runs on Windows Phone 8.1.

HTC One M8 Windows Phone Specs

Apart from the different operating systems, the Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8 will be the same as the one running on Android.

HTC One M8 Windows Phone features a 5-inch Full HD screen, 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and an Adreno 330 GPU. In addition, it also comes with a Duo Camera, which can refocus photos after shooting them. The other features of the Windows Phone version includes a 5MP front camera, an IR blaster, NFC, 11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. It also includes support for 4G LTE networks.

A major attraction of the HTC One M8 handset is its premium brushed aluminum design, which is available in a number of colors.

The HTC One M8 also comes with an optional Dot View cover, which can display information via tiny holes. Opportunely, Microsoft has recently announced Update 1 for Windows Phone 8.1 that includes support for smart covers.
