HTC One M8 vs Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs and Price Comparison: Which Device Is Best?

This year has been full of exciting releases from tech giants Samsung and HTC. Just recently, Samsung had amazed the consumer base by releasing its Galaxy S5, its flagship smartphone bent on overthrowing Apple's iPhone. The rest have been following closely, like HTC with their One M8 phone.

With competition this tough, it is hard for consumers to choose between which smartphones to purchase, especially with the small differences each phone has over one another. We'll be taking a look into the differences between the Galaxy S5 and the One M8.

The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution screen with a pixel density of 432, equipped with a super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. It is capable of multitouch and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The One M8 on the other hand is just a hair smaller with a 5.0-inch 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution screen with a Super LCD 3 touchscreen. Since the screen is smaller than the S5's with the same resolution, the M8 has a slightly sharper screen. Just like the S5, the M8 is capable of multitouch and is protected by the same Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

In terms of performance, the two phones are quite similar, sporting the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 processor. Both even have the same Adreno 330 GPU. The S5 and the M8 also possess the same 2GB RAM, 16GB and 32GB internal memory as well as an external memory support capable of supporting up to 128 GB.

The M8 loses to the S5 however, with image capturing capabilities. The M8 only has dual 4MP rear-facing cameras while the S5 has a 16MP snapper. The M8 can capture video up to 1080p at 60fps while the S5 can go as high as 2160p at 30fps.

Both are running on the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat, but may switch to the Android L as soon as it is released by Google. The One M8 will be going for around $650 while the S5 is running for $580. With the success that the S5 has and at that price, it will be hard for the M8 to compete.
