How to Install Android 4.4.2 Kitkat on T-Mobile Variants of the Samsung Galaxy S2 [TUTORIAL]

With the recent release of the latest version of Android, the 4.4.2 Kitkat, Android users have begun downloading and installing it to benefit from the upgrades and bug fixes the version has to offer. More technically adept users have no trouble installing the version update. Some however, are in need of help on how to do it.

The Android 4.4.2 Kitkat can be installed on the Galaxy S2 with the help of the LiquidSmooth Custom ROM, developed with the help of the Android Kitkat based on the Android OpenSource Project.

The ROM isn't only intended to help users install the update but improve overall performance and smoothness of the OS as well. The ROM also offers a number of features to use with the Android OS. For a full list of features, their website can be seen here.

Before using the ROM, users must make sure that the following parameters are met:

A proper back-up of the phone's data must be made on a computer or some other storage device. The handset must have at least 80 percent power. The USB drivers for the Galaxy S2 must be installed on a PC computer. USB Debugging must also be enabled on the phone.

If during installation, the device is stuck in the booting phase, users can just perform a wipe on the cache partition and Dalvik before rebooting the device.
Most importantly, the Galaxy S2 must be the T-Mobile variant of the S2 (SGH-T989).

The tutorial below comes from Team Android.

Step 1: Users must download the LiquidSmooth Custom ROM and Google Apps for the Galaxy S2 to the computer.

Step 2: Connect the Galaxy S2 to the computer via USB and copy the ROM and Google Apps packages to the root folder of the handset's SD card without extracting the packages.

Step 3: Disconnect the USB and turn the unit off.

Step 4: Go to the phone's Recovery Mode by holding down the volume up, home, and power buttons at the same time.

Step 5: In Recovery Mode, reset the phone to its factory settings by selecting "wipe data/factory reset." Select options by using the power button. Next, clear the cache by selecting "wipe cache partition."

Step 6: Erase the dalvik cache as well. To do this, go to the Advanced menu from CWM recovery options and select "wipe dalvik cache."

Step 7: Go back to the main recovery screen and select "install zip from sdcard" and select "choose zip from sdcard."

Step 8: Use the volume keys to go to the Android 4.4.2 ROM file and select it using the power button.

Step 9: To install Google Apps, repeat steps 7 and 8.

Step 10: When the installation is complete, press the "+++Go Back+++" button to return to the main recovery menu and select "reboot system now."

The Galaxy S2 should reboot after doing the entire process correctly. Take note that the first booting will take some time and users should be patient.
