Instead of stuffing her face with the hors d'oeuvres she's been dreaming of for months, Robin is stuck in a laser tag arena with Barney. Apparently the groom-to-be is in custody for causing a disturbance, while their wedding rehearsal dinner is already 10 minutes underway.

In a series of flashbacks Barney and Robin take turns trying to trick the other in extremely shocking surprises. In on instance Barney pretends to call the wedding off with Robin. He chokes up convincing Robin that he's serious. After telling Robin to leave his apartment he unzips a red suitcase that's filled with the surprise: puppies!

Trying to convince Barney that the "no surprises" aspect of marriage is the best part, Marshall and Lily mistakenly lead Barney to the conclusion that his bride-to-be only is planning a secret rehearsal dinner at the laser tag arena.

Meanwhile Lily takes her anger with Marshall for taking the judgeship in New York City without talking to her about it first on Ted who decides against playing piano as Liberace for the rehearsal dinner. Closing in on the Farhampton hotel, Marshall is going to be greeted by a very upset wife.

Ted cheers her up sharing a secret with Lily. In a surprise twist Barney surprises Robin with a Canadian-themed hockey rink rehearsal dinner. The laser tag arena security guard were just part of Barney's elaborate surprise.

Though everything seems cheery as of now, a storm's a-brewing in Lily's soul and it's going to pour when Marshall arrives.
