How I Met Your Mother Season 9 News: Creators Apologize for 'Racist' Episode Toward Asians

How I Met Your Mother Season 9 has been plunged into some controversy this week from its most recent episode, Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra, after three of the stars Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, and Alyson Hannigan did something that many people labelled as racist.

The acting trio were outfitted as Kung Fu masters, and spoke in fake Asian accents. Their mannerisms and personality were filled with Asian stereotypes.

Monday's episode enraged numerous watchers to invent the hashtag #HowIMetYourRacism on Twitter. HIMYM's makers, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, replied to the dispute today, and admitted their fault on handling the episode.

"Hey guys, sorry this took so long. [Craig Thomas] and I want to say a few words about ?#HowIMetYourRacism," wrote Bays via his Twitter account.

"With Monday's episode, we set out to make a silly and unabashedly immature homage to Kung Fu movies, a genre we've always loved. But along the way we offended people. We're deeply sorry, and we're grateful to everyone who spoke up to make us aware of it. We try to make a show that's universal, that anyone can watch and enjoy. We fell short of that this week, and feel terrible about it. To everyone we offended, I hope we can regain your friendship, and end this series on a note of goodwill. Thanks."

There are eight more episodes left in HIMYM's final season. The show's series finale will air on March 31st.

How I Met Your Mother season 9 airs every Monday night on CBS at 8pm EST.
