Homeless Musician Reunites with Carlos Santana After Years on the Streets Through News Reporter
A homeless man reunited with famous former friend, guitarist Carlos Santana, thanks to a TV news reporter.
It is the season of miracles and for homeless man Marcus Malone the chances of being reunited with his former band mate does not fall short of that. Malone's unplanned meeting with a television reporter can possibly change his future.
Reporter Stanley Roberts of TV station KRON-4 in San Francisco encountered the homeless man picking through trash, after filming a "People Behaving Badly" segment.
Roberts was doing the report about illegal dumping in Oakland when he found Malone rummaging through the trash.
After talking for a while Malone claimed that at one time, he was with the original Santana blues band.
A stunned Roberts asked, "You were with the original Santana band?"
"I'm homeless and on the streets because I got in some trouble that put me in jail, I lost everything," Malone responded.
Roberts told Inside Edition that when he went back to his office, he did some research on the claim. He was almost sure it was a "fib." Sure enough, he found Malone was telling the truth.
"This guy turned out to be someone that influenced the music culture. This was a huge surprise," said Roberts.
The Daily Dots write that Malone's "fiery conga rhythms were an early driving force in Carlos Santana's Latin psychedelia. You can actually hear Malone's playing on Santana's Live at the Fillmore 1968.
Miraculously, Santana saw the KRON-4 report and contacted the TV station, asking how he could get in touch with his long-lost friend. A few days later, the TV reporter found Malone again and surprised Malone after leading him to a car that Santana was sitting in.
When being reunited with his band mate Malone said, "You don't know how hard I prayed to get to see you again."
They genuinely embraced and Santana replied, "I am honored to be in your presence. That is him man, Magnificent Marcus Malone. His spirit is indomitable."
Maybe this chance encounter can help the "Magnificent" conga player get back on his feet. Santana went on and said, "We are going to hook up because of this gentlemen, and you know God has a way man."
Roberts said to Inside Edition that the legendary guitar player is working on getting Malone a place and will help him get cleaned up. Two long lost friends reunited for the holidays.
