Homeland Season 4 Release Date, Cast Rumors: Carrie Mathison Retreats to Islamabad

Homeland Season 3 ended with a bang with Carrie Mathison pregnant with Nicholas Brody's child, and her love interest murdered in the last episode The Star

With her father's child's absence, she heads to the far Middle East to Islamabad to start a new career and rebuild her life.

According to new rumors and plot spoilers, Season 4 focuses more on Mathison's life story and everything that goes on in between.

In an interview with Variety magazine, creator Alex Gansa said, "It is mostly a Carrie story.  Saul [Berenson] figures into the narrative in a very, very important way."

Entertainment Weekly reports that Claire Danes, who portrays the role of Mathison, will not continue her career in Istanbul as Station Chief, but in Islamabad, Pakistan and Afghanistan for most of Season 4.

Danes also commented on her character's transformation given that the baby is out soon.

"I think [the child] is going to be a big theme for her emotionally.  I think she probably escapes into her job. I think she hurls herself at it as a way to avoid some unresolved, very painful feelings to do with Brody," she said in a Q&A session with ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent & The Week Special Contributor Martha Raddatz.

Mathison's story adds more spice and intriguing questions for Homeland fans with her bipolar condition and her whirlwind relationship with Brody.

"Carrie's mental condition and her bipolar illness is always part of the story," said Gansa, ensuring that Mathison's disorder will play a huge part in the next season.

The award-winning Homeland returns for the fourth season on October 19, 2014.
