'Homeland' Season 3 Recap: Carrie Convinces Brody to Follow Saul's Plan After Seeing Dana in Episode 9 "One Last Time"
Brody and Carrie finally reunite in Sunday night's episode of Homeland Season 3.
In the first episodes, Brody was all but a memory [save one]. After last week's conclusion we saw arriving in Caracas at the Tower of David, where Brody was being kept prisoner in terrible conditions. By now he's a full blown addict who is forced to go cold turkey in order to carry out one of Saul's plans to overthrow the Iranian government and possibly redeem Brody's innocence after being wrongfully accused and persecuted for the Langley bombing.
Saul somehow gets Brody back into the States where he's being treated for his painkiller addiction. At this point Saul only has 10 days to get Brody ready for the sensitive mission before Senator Lockhart takes his job as director. The medic advise him and Dar Adal that the former marine is in no condition to tell the time of day much less be trusted in such a high-risk assignment.
"He's a mess: anemic, severely dehydrated, probably Hep C, HIV isn't a stretch," the medic explains to the acting director of the CIA. "The guys a junkie sir."
To change an uncooperative Brody's mind, Saul enlists the help of his once-lover Carrie. To get her on board Saul is forced to reveal the details of his plan. He wants Brody to convince Iran he's changed sides, in hopes he'd be celebrated as a war hero for the CIA bombings. Once taken in, he could get close enough to the head of security and assassinate him, allowing Javardi to take the senior ranking position.
Meanwhile, Saul also discovers the Iranian intelligence officer who bugged his house is in cahoots with Senator Lockheart. Not wanting to humiliate his wife, or damage the CIA's reputation, Saul instead blackmails his future boss into delaying his confirmation as director, thus buying him and Brody more time to get ready for the mission.
Brody trains with the other marines at the camp in what could easily be mistaken for Rocky redemption montage. He gets back into shape and looks sharper than ever. The night before loading out he pressures Carrie to take him to the motel that his daughter is a maid so he can see her one last time before he embarks on the mission he probably won't return from. Shocked, Dana clearly does not want to see her father again.
"I just wanted to see you before I go," he tells her.
"Did you ever think about for one second that I wanted to see you," she replies. "Write what you want me to say and I'll say it, as long as it means I never have to see you again."
Don't miss next week's episode of Homeland Season 3, Sunday nights at 9/8c on Showtime.
