'Homeland' Season 3 Episode 11 Recap: Will Brody Escape Tehran After Assassinating General Akbari?

One thing we know about Brody is he sure likes to change his mind. Just as it seemed he had gone rogue, severed loyalty to the mission and genuinely wanted to stay in Tehran with Nazir's widowed wife, a flip switches and he kills General Akbari with an ashtray.

In Sunday night's penultimate season 3 episode of Homeland, Carrie arrives in Iran to help Brody evacuate once he assassinates the Iranian Revolutionary Guard leader.

In a meeting with Akbari, Javadi suggests that he meets with Brody face to face to decide whether or not the former marine can be trusted. The stage is now set for Akbari's convoy to rendezvous with Brody in an area outside downtown. The three cars arrive outside of an apartment building. Minutes later Akbari steps out of his car, takes one look at Brody and then drives off. Brody is then led inside the apartment building where Nazir's widowed wife Nassrin waits to talk.

Brody then seemingly aborts the mission by breaking the assassination device he was given against the side of the car he was riding in. He turns into a celebrity and badmouths the United States on Iranian television.

Thinking they had lost Brody, whom they now considered a liability who could possibly blow Javadi's cover, the CIA plots to kill their asset. Tipped off by Carrie, who is still in the city, Brody escapes to Nassrin's house.

Through Nazir's widow, Brody schedules a meeting with Akbari where he plans to tell him everything. After Brody tells the general that Javadi's was owned by the CIA he shockingly grabs the ashtray and beats him unconscious. Taking a pillow he proceeds to suffocate him. Why? It's not certain. But he definitely resents being brainwashed into a terrorist by Nazir and Akbari.

After suffocating the general, Brody calls for Carrie to help him escape.
