The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug Official Trailer / First Glimpse of New Hobbit Movie Offers Fans Preview of Gold-Hording Dragon Smaug [VIDEO]
The exciting new trailer for "The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug" has been released. The precious word to keep in mind is dragons.
"The Desolation of Smaug," which is going to come late this year, has two parts in the series, following that Desolation picks up where the first film left off, after hobbit Bilbo, Wizard Gandalf and the dwarfs escape from the blood thirsty orcs.
First look Orlando bloom reprises his role as arrow-shooting Legolas in new Hobbit trailer, "The Desolation of Smaug.
In the trailer, Smaug turns a fiery eye on Bilbo, who has sneaked into the enormous dragon's lair. The dragon's attack on and occupation of the dwarf kingdom of Erebor is the catalyst, J.R.R.Tolkien bases the story in Peter Jackson's planned "Hobbit" trilogy.
At one point, dwarf king Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and his men come face to face with Legolas and his bow and arrow.
"Do not think I won't kill you, dwarf," the blond elf, played by Orlando Bloom, warns Thorin. Legolas was a favorite in Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy a decade ago, but he did not appear in last year's film.
Also new to the second "Hobbit" installment is Tauriel, an elf woman created for the film and played by Evangeline Lilly.
"When did we allow evil to become stronger than us?" the warrior says as the trailer shows her on horseback, notching an arrow in her bow. Later in the trailer, she tries to persuade Legolas to join the fray, telling him, "It is our fight."
"The Hobbit: There And Back Again." "Smaug" gets its title from the evil dragon Smaug, voiced and motion-captured by "Star Trek Into Darkness" villain Benedict Cumberbatch. (You can catch a glimpse of him at the end of the trailer above.)
Starring Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans and Richard Armitage, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is out in theaters on Dec. 13.
