The San Antonio Spurs travel to Miami to take on the Heat in Game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals. The Spurs certainly have a bench much better than the Indiana Pacers had in the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals. Yet the Pacers pushed the Heat to a dramatic seven game series.
When you look at tonight's matchup against the Heat, the Spurs have two things in their favor.
1. The Spurs have the best point guard in the NBA, Tony Parker. Parker is not just a court orchestrator. He's a guy that can put up points with the best. Just ask the Memphis Grizzlies [ouch...too soon?].
2. Yes Tim Duncan is 37 years old. But the guy's won four NBA championships with the Spurs and will be remembered as one of the best Hall-of-Fame big men to ever play the game. If Roy Hibbert and David West out matched the Heat, how will they respond to the far superior Tim Duncan?
If the Heat, Pacers series was a UFC match, then the 2013 NBA Finals will be a chess match. Something tells me Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is a good chess player.
However, when you have a King on the court playing like a Queen [bare with me on the metaphor], then all things are possible. That individual is LeBron James. He can do it all.
Tonight's game comes down to two elite teams going against one another. You can talk strategy. You can talk about how much older Gregg Popovich is than Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. We'll just have to wait to see who shows up in Game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals. The Miami Heat or the San Antonio Spurs?
