Hearthstone PC Game Tournament Cheater: DreamHack Summer Hearthstone Championship Cheating Controversy

RDU from Romania is the DreamHack Summer Hearthstone Championship winner. He defeated Amaz with 3 - 0 and won the prize of $10,000, but problems arose as accusations of cheating followed the messages RDU received during his final matches.

Hearthstone, developed by Blizzard Entertainment, is an online digital card game based on the characters and creatures appearing in the legendary Warcraft series. From the original Warcraft: Orcs & Humans (1992) and through all the many World of Warcraft expansion packs, fans of the games have grown accustomed to the iconic characters they contained. The familiar digital entities were fused into powerful cards with various attributes for the card battle game known as Hearthstone, released March 11th, 2014.

The relatively new Blizzard Entertainment title has reached popularity enough to deem tournaments with high stakes cash prizes. Recently, the DreamHack Summer Hearthstone Championship took place on June 14 and became a subject of scrutiny by officials and fans.

Radu 'Rdu' Dima was pegged as a cheater after receiving in game messages from friends through a universal Blizzard message service. The photo above captures what Twitch.tv spectators noticed as a message pertaining to the card left in his opponent Amaz's hand. The correspondence mentions that the final card is a "Hunter's Mark" card which may have impacted Rdu to lean a certain way in his next play.

Following the evident controversy, tournament officials resumed play after both parties disabled their in game message service. Also, it was deemed that a rematch was not to take place.

His opponent Amaz had this to say, "Rdu is definitely not cheating," he said, "Sometimes you get into the finals and your friends get crazy and they just make bad mistakes and whatnot. That's kinda what happens." and "So I don't really like that there are so many negative comments about Rdu and intentional cheating - because it's not cheating."

Rdu went on to win the finals and the $10,000 cash prize, 3-0.
