Rupert Grint to Make Broadway Debut In 'It's Only a Play'

Actor Rupert Grint, known for his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series, is set to make a Broadway debut in Terrence McNalley's starry comedy, It's Only a Play.

Joining a cast of A-list actors which include, Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Stockard Channing, Megan Mullally, F. Murrary Abraham and newcomer Micah Stock, the young Rupert Grint will have his work cut out for him. The show is scheduled to open at Broadway's Schoenfeld Theatre on October 9 for a limited 17-week engagement.

Grint will play the role of Frank Finger, a director of a new play by an anxious writer (Broderick) whose career is on the line as he eagerly awaits the reviews on opening night. On a side note, one possible reason for electing Grint to play Frank Finger, is that the script calls for someone relatively young. As the play progresses, the youthful playwright spends time with his TV star companion (Lane), producer (Mullally), the play's leading lady (Channing), infamous critic (Abraham), and coat check attendant (Stock).

The 2014 production is an adaptation of a 1986 version which premiered in New York at the Manhattan Theathre Club. McNally, scribe and four-time Tony award winner, pairs with Jack O'Brien, who will direct the show.

Interestingly enough, Grint's long time co-star Daniel Radcliffe has recently returned to Broadway in The Cripple of Inishmaan which ends its engagement this coming July.
