Harmful Effects in Red Meat Leads to Heart Disease

In the recent update, there has been dispute over the Health hazards of red meat. A recent study has mentioned about the harmful effects of red meat.  It proclaims that surplus intake of red meat fill-ups the blood Stream.

The Journal Nature Medicine has published a survey that existence of dietetic substance in red meat and in several other energy drinks has been the main cause for Atherosclerosis, or the hardening of arteries.

The Cleveland Clinic Researchers charged a study and it states that Bacteria present in the digestive tract of humans is responsible for converting carnitine, present in red meat, into trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO).  Preceding with the study, the team had linked TMAO to atherosclerosis in People. Stanley Hazen the Section head of Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation at the Cleveland clinic, says in a Quote that, "A diet high in carnitine actually shifts our gut microbe Composition to those that like carnitine, making meat eaters even more Susceptible".

Researchers analyzed 2,595 People who were undergoing heart check ups in order to prove the hypothesis. When they compared the Carnitine levels in   vegetarians and vegans, omnivores, in that omnivores produced greater amounts of TMAO.

There are more traces of Carnitine found in fish, poultry, wheat and Vegetables; the main source of it is red meat, stated by the University of Maryland.

The Researchers has founded that, TMAO triggered heart disease in Mice. For test they fed Mice with higher level of TMAO and noticed that it led to the Hardening of Arteries. Since Vegetarians and Vegans don't consume red meat, they Have lower levels of gut bacteria that play the role of converting the compound to TMAO, there by lowering the risk of Heart disease.
