‘Hannibal’ Season 4 News: Showrunner Not Optimistic about Show’s Future
'Hannibal' show-runner Bryan Fuller recently said that he was not very optimistic regarding the future of the show after NBC axed the serial killer television drama for low viewer ratings. Nevertheless, Fuller said that he was seeking other networks to complete telling the story.
According to IB Times, as both Netflix and Amazon have refused to air 'Hannibal' Season 4, the options for the show's revival seem to be running out. However, fans are still hopeful that the show will be shifted to another network for its fourth season.
In a recent interview with TV Guide, Fuller acknowledged, "It doesn't seem like there is any imminent rescue." Nevertheless, the executive producer hoped that that there may possibly be another chance after the Season 3 finale.
Explaining further, Fuller said, "None of the networks the studio has talked to about picking up a fourth season knew how this season was going to end." The show-runner added, "They were just going off the assumption that it was just going to be another season. ... After the finale, I'd love to perhaps reopen the conversation with potential networks or streaming options once they clearly understand what the story is that we've told."
While Fuller said that he is optimistic regarding the future of the show, he also seemed to be preparing fans for the possibility that the show will have to be terminated. In fact, Hugh Dancy (who portrays Will) also assured fans recently that the Season 3 finale in August could function as a satisfying series end if necessary. He told TV Line, "I think that should that be our farewell, it would be a fitting one," adding, "But you could've said the same thing about the end of the first season and the end of the second season. Bryan has described to me what he had envisioned moving forward into the next season which would be justified by the way we end this year."
According to the report, the unresponsiveness from networks is not a good sign for the show. However, steady ratings may possibly help 'Hannibal' to survive for another season.
Meanwhile, 'Hannibal' fans proved their loyalty in the ratings on Saturday night. The first weekend airing of the show' garnered 1.2 million viewers, reports TV Series Finale. While the airing on last Thursday drew 1.4 million viewers, which is not a great difference, it shows that 'Hannibal' fans are willing to stick with the show irrespective of where it is being aired.
'Hannibal' Season 3 airs at 10:00 pm EDT on Saturdays on NBC.
