'Hannibal' Season 4 News: Producers Exploring Possible Network for Renewal
Fans of the psychological thriller-horror television series 'Hannibal' were disappointed when NBC announced last week that it will not renew the show for its fourth season. Currently, the series is on its third season and the fourth episode of the show was aired on Thursday, June 25.
According to a report in Christian Today, last Monday, NBC issued a statement saying that the network was "tremendously proud" of 'Hannibal' over its three seasons and also thanked its foreign distributor Gaumont and others related to the show.
Soon after, 'Hannibal' showrunner Bryan Fuller also issued a statement thanking NBC for giving them the opportunity to air the series for three seasons in spite of "Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers" -- pointing to the gruesome scenes in the highly praised television drama.
In his statement, Fuller said, "Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC's table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again."
Currently, it is being said that Fuller is firm on saving the series, as he has right away started the #SaveHannibal campaigns on social media following NBC's announcement on last Monday. In separated interviews with The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Fuller revealed that "there has been interest from a few parties" and that the studio is already talking to other venues to assess the seriousness of their interest.
According to Fuller, he is of the view that continuing the show on Amazon is the most sensible idea as they have been exclusively streaming it on Amazon for the last three seasons. At the same time, the showrunner disclosed that while he loves the idea of continuing the show with Amazon, they also want to explore other options before them.
Fuller told The Hollywood Reporter, "All suitors are welcome."
In reply to a question regarding the timing of the cancellation of the show, as there are still 10 episodes of 'Hannibal' Season 3 to go, Fuller told said The Hollywood Reporter that NBC announced its decision now instead of doing so at the end of the season mainly owing to their contract.
Fuller said that he is confident that the fan support for the show on social media support will definitely be a great help to get 'Hannibal' picked up by some other network for another season.
"The fact that the fannibals have been so passionate about the show and so enthusiastic, it always helps," Fuller told Variety, adding, "It may not be the thing that seals the deal, but it is an indicator of audience interest."
