'Halo 5' Beta Review: 'Call of Duty' Clone or Best Game in Series?

If you have been an avid 'Halo' follower, than 'Halo 5' has definitely been on your radar. However, 'Halo 5' is still in beta testing and has very limited game play functionality. Currently, only a 4v4 slayer mode across two maps is available, and what's worse, it's invite only.

A common complaint in the 'Halo' community, is that 'Halo 5' beta is becoming a 'Call of Duty' clone. Many purist disliked how 'Halo 4' moved away from its 'Halo 3' roots of "gunskill." 'Halo 5' aims to bring back that skill based rank system with added new weapons, weapon mechanics and movement mechanics (e.g. booster jet packs).

The developers at 343 have refocused the 'Halo 5' beta and brought it back to what it was famous for, awesome PvP. The game is quick paced and heavily skill based, with weapons being much more balanced and tweaked game mechanics (like the shield not regenerating if the player is running) forcing players to play smarter.

The days of running around with guns blazing, with no fear because of a constantly regenerating shield are over.

A skill based ranking system has been re-implemented, which after 10 games, players are ranked based on their performance. Reminiscent of the 'Halo 3' days, this will definitely be a welcomed reintroduction and this time, hopefully it is for good.

Since 'Halo 5' is still in beta, it is hard to say how the rest of the game will turn out. But if multiplayer is anything to go by, the outlook is very promising. 'Halo 5' is definitely a game to keep an eye since it's currently tick marking all the right boxes. At the rate it's going, it will surely win back its legion of old fans and gaining new ones by the droves.
