Grey's Anatomy will be back on screen with a whole bunch of new characters that to redefine Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Cristina Yang left the hospital alive, leaving special "gifts" for her friends. Season 11 will focus on Dr. Pierce, Karev, and Meredith's decision not to join Derek in Washington D.C.

In the Season 10 finale, Yang helped Ellen Pompeo's character realize that there is more for her at GSMH than to go along with Derek. Before her departure for Switzerland, Yang gave her corporate shares to Alex Karev, and may have directed Dr. Webber to his daughter. Speculations about Meredith breaking up with Derek are circulating in the online community, but creator Shonda Rhimes dismissed its possibility.

"The duo are about to face one of their more challenging seasons in recent memory, which makes the timing of Cristina's exit horrible for Mer," Rhimes told TV Line referring to the long distance relationship struggle between the couple.

Ausiello of TV Line also confirmed that Ellen Pompeo, who plays the role of Meredith Grey, is renewed for another two-year contract; therefore, killing both characters is most unlikely for the show.

Clearly, Rhimes wants the fans to wonder about Derek and Meredith's relationship given that they are living in different places. With Burke wanting to follow Yang's footsteps, and start a new life, what could possibly entail for their careers and personal lives?
