Gravity Beats Avatar 3-D Records at Box Office Opening Weekend, Watch Alfonso Cuarón & Cast Speak on the Making of the Movie (VIDEO)
Gravity debuted to a huge opening weekend and even beat-out 3-D movie giant, Avatar.
The action/drama movie that is set in space brought in $55.6 million dollars in its opening weekend with 80% of ticket sales coming to see the 3-D version.
3-D movies have been on a slight decline in the last few years, but with the star power of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney working together and the brilliant mind of Alfonso Cuarón on the film, fans were willing to give it a shot.
Gravity turned out to be an epic space masterpiece, even getting praise from Avatar director James Cameron saying, "I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it's the best space photography ever done, I think it's the best space film ever done, and it's the movie I've been hungry to see for an awful long time."
Director Alfonso Cuarón admits that it was a very 'grueling' shoot and will never make another space film, but it seems like he won't have to to be satisfied with the way Gravity turned out.
Gravity should be up for many awards of all categories in the next year and is a movie that everyone needs to check out.
I personally saw Gravity this weekend and was blown away. If you go and see the movie but do not see it in 3-D, you are missing out. The movie would still be good, but the experience in 3-D is incredible.
Listen to the cast and director Alfonso Cuarón speak about the filming of the movie in the video below.
