Grant Hill & Jason Kidd Retiring From NBA Today, After Going No. 2 & 3 in 1994 Draft Together
Grant Hill and Jason Kidd are leaving the NBA the same way they came into the NBA, together.
Behind No. 1 Pick Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson (Bucks) from Purdue, Jason Hill (Mavericks) went No. 2 and Grant Hill (Pistons) No. 3 in the 1993 NBA Draft.
Kidd and Hill won co-Rookie of the Year awards in 1995.
Jason Kidd has a relatively injury free NBA career where Grant Hill's whole career was plagued with injuries until his last final seasons.
After leading the Nets to 2 finals appearances in the early 2000's, Kidd finally won a Championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011 upsetting the favorites, the Miami Heat.
Grant Hill averaged over 20 points per game in his first 5 seasons in Detroit and was always at the top of All-Star balloting.
Hill left the Pistons for Orlando to team up with budding star Tracy McGrady but was sidelined much of the time with the Magic and never could really get his career going there.
Hill got a second shot at a NBA career arriving in Phoenix where he joined a great team and for him, a one of the best, if not the best training staffs in the NBA.
Hill stayed injury free in his years with the Suns and they almost upset the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals in 2010 to make a trip to the NBA finals which never happened in the Nash/Stoudermire era, even with Nash winning 2 MVP's in his second stint with the Suns.
Jason Kidd is a sure Hall of Famer one day and Grant Hill will most likely get in. Hill could have been in Kobe territory had he been healthy his whole career.
Hill was a 7 time All-Star and a 5 time All-NBA selection.
So with all of that, it is fitting that Jason Kidd and Grant Hill announce their retirement the same year as well.
