'Gracepoint' Premiere Date Spoilers, Cast News: New Crime Drama Adapted From 'Broadchurch' Airs Oct. 2
'Gracepoint', a new 10-episode crime drama based on the UK series 'Broadchurch' will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 9.00 pm ET on FOX.
The new series was created by Chris Chibnall, and its executive producer is Dan Futterman. In terms of the cast, the show will feature Anna Gunn in the role of Detective Ellie Miller, while David Tennant will portray Detective Emmet Caver.
Even though 'Gracepoint' has been adapted from 'Broadchurch', it's going to be somewhat different from the original series. Apparently, viewers can expect the story to shift tenfold in the third or fourth episode.
In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Carolyn Bernstein revealed, "We did consider different starting places, different ideas for the first episode," adding, "The way that the story was told [in Broadchurch] was so well done, why would we contort ourselves? It really felt like the smartest, best launching pad."
She further said that when the season progresses in the third or fourth episode, the storyline will "diverge in significant ways from the original." Another report said that 'Gracepoint' will most likely have a different ending than 'Broadchurch'.
The official synopsis of the premiere episode released by the show creators reads, "A young boy, Danny Solano (guest star Nikolas Filipovic), is found dead on an idyllic beach in the small seaside town of Gracepoint, spurring a major investigation lead by Detective Emmet Carver who has just arrived in Gracepoint to fill a high position in the town's police force."
The synopsis goes on to add, "That job previously had been promised to Detective Ellie Miller who, in light of the tragedy, must put any resentment aside and work the case with her prickly new boss."
"Danny's parents Mark (Michael Peña, 'End of Watch') and Beth Solano (Virginia Kull, 'Boardwalk Empire'), and his older sister, Chloe (newcomer Madalyn Horcher) are devastated by the news, which carves a powerfully dark wake through the town as friends become suspects," the synopsis continued.
