Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio Declare, 'Extreme Conservatives, Have No Place in the State of New York'

New York City government officials, Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Mayor Bill de Blasio agree that New Yorkers with extreme conservative views "have no place" andare not welcomed in the City.

Governor Cuomo said in an interview that if "extreme conservatives" are "pro-life, pro-assault-weapon, and anti-gay," then "they have no place in the state of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are."

Cuomo made his statements during a WCNY radio interview with Susan Arbetter on "The Capitol Pressroom" Friday morning, and noted the "Capitol Confidential" of the Times Union in Albany.

In his contentious remarks, Cuomo stated that a "schism" existed in the state Republican Party between the moderate and the extreme conservative party which reflected a larger split among the group in Washington, D.C., and it was causing a lot of discord.

"Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that's who they are and if they are the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are."

Cuomo added, "Moderate Republicans have a place in this state" and noted that he can work with moderate Republicans, as they have regularly passed his agenda.

Cuomo went into greater detail breaking down his main issues with "extreme" conservatives, insisting them to "figure out if your extreme conservative philosophy can survive in this state and the answer is no."

New York City's new mayor, De Blasio, piggybacked on what the governor said and defended the governor's remarks according to the New York Post.

"I think he was absolutely right to say what he said ... I agree with Gov. Cuomo's remarks, I interpret his remarks to say that an extremist attitude that continues the reality of violence in our communities or an extremist attitude that denies the rights of women does not represent the views of the people of New York State," he noted.

"We all understand there's a right to free speech. I wouldn't disagree with that right, nor would Gov. Cuomo," he added.

Staten Island Pastor Timothy McIntyre of Oasis Christian Center and president of the Staten Island Association of Evangelicals said to silive.com that Governor Cuomo's "bullying comments" call for an apology.

"When our elected representatives make such bullying comments it only reflects their true character," Rev. McIntyre said. Adding, "Where's the tolerance for differing views, Mr. Cuomo? The governor should be ashamed and needs to apologize or at least make some attempt to clarify his remarks."

The Blaze reported Catholic Bishop Richard Malone was not impressed with the comments either stating, "The governor of New York state actually said that there's no place for us if we are pro-life in the state of New York."

"Now he is speaking of extremism and I think that comment is the best example of extremism I've heard for a long time."
