‘Gotham‘ TV Series Cast News: Ben McKenzie, Jada Pinkett Smith, and 10-Year Old Bruce Wayne

FOX is taking on one of DC Comics' best known cities and basing a new police thriller around it. It has been reported that "Gotham' will be set long before Bruce Wayne begins dressing up as the Caped Crusader and fighting crime. Instead, the show will focus on Detective James Gordon as the protagonist, following the Commissioner-to-be in his younger days as a rookie detective for the Gotham City Police Department.

Gordon will be played by "The O.C.' and "Southland' alum, Ben McKenzie. A 10-year old Bruce Wayne has been cast, and the part will be played by David Mazouz, who was last seen alongside Kiefer Sutherland in the TV series "Touch'.

The role of butler Alfred will be played by Sean Pertwee, while Robin Lord Taylor will play the 20-something Oswald Cobblepot. Donal Logue will be playing the part of Gordon's partner, Detective Harvey Bullock, while Camren Bicondova was cast as a young Selina Kyle.

Among the most notable members of the cast is Jada Pinkett Smith, who was given the role of Fish Mooney, an original character created by the show's writers. In an interview with Arsenio Hall on "The Arsenio Hall Show', the actress said, "I'm very excited about that [character] because she's quite unique but I think I'm going to surprise people with how I play this particular villain and her vicious ways."

Show creator Bruno Heller said that there will be no superheroes in sight in the premiere episode of Gotham, "If there is a superhero in the show, it's [the city of] Gotham. It's a larger-than-life character," said Heller in an interview with TVLine.

"Gotham' will premiere its first episode on Sept. 22 on FOX.
