GoPro 3 vs GoPro 4 Black Edition Comparison: Review of Features, Specs, Price

Since GoPro has launched its new model in its lineup of action cameras, the GoPro Hero4, consumers are wondering how it matches up to the preceding model, GoPro Hero3+.

Popular opinion says that GoPro is the brand to beat in terms of capturing high-quality, first-person, wide-angle extreme shots like extreme sports or intense stunts.

The Emmy award-winning camera, the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition has already met its successor, the GoPro Hero4 Black Edition.

There is not much difference between the Hero3+ and Hero4 in terms of size and dimensions as they have the same 41 x 59 x 21/30 mm size. On that note, both cameras can use microSD cards.

The GoPro Hero4 Black Edition can capture 4K, ultra-wide angle videos at 24, 30 and 35 fps as well as 4K SuperView videos at 25 fps. Resolutions range from 2.7p at 50 fps, 1440p at 80 fps, 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 120fps.

On the other hand, the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition is limited to 4K videos at 15 fps and significantly lower resolutions from 2.7K at 30fps, 1440p at 48 fps, 960p at 100 fps and 720p at 120 fps.

In terms of capturing photos, the Hero4 and Hero3+ boast similar features including 12 megapixel cameras and a fixed f/2.8 aperture. Both cameras can take time-lapse images at 0.5 second to 60 second-intervals as well.

The GoPro Hero4 Black Edition processor will reportedly be able to capture better quality pictures and faster video frame rates with a processor that is twice as fast as that of the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition.

The Hero4 Black Edition wins in terms of battery life as it has a 1180mAH rechargeable lithium-ion battery that is reported to last 30 percent longer than its predecessor.

Also, the device overtakes its predecessor as it has both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability while the Hero3+ only has Wi-Fi.

The Hero4 Black Edition is priced at $499.99 while the Hero3+ Black Edition will cost $399.99.
