Google Nexus 8 Release Date: Still Unconfirmed, Limited Specs Details Available
The next version to the Google Nexus flagship line is already rumored to have a prototype. The Google Nexus 8 won't be a smartphone, but will be a mini-tablet, geared to rival the iPad Mini 2. The Nexus 7 was regarded as one of the best tablets during 2013 so the Nexus 8 release is generating some hype.
Google was supposedly going to announce a release date for the Nexus 8 and even unveiling a working prototype for Google's I/O Conference.
Currently, Google has not announced an official release date and rumor mills don't have anything to go on which would suggest that the Nexus 8 would be seeing a late 2014 release. An import-export database was intercepted by GSMInsider showing a prototype already on its way to Banglore.
The database also showed a potential price for the Nexus 8. Being a step up from the Nexus 7 because of its larger screen and improved specs, it would be natural to assume that it would be more expensive than the Nexus 7, which goes for around $500.
Google is aiming to out-price its rivals not by increasing the gadget price, but by making it less expensive. The database is currently showing the Nexus 8 to be around $290.
The spec sheet for the Nexus 8 is very limited, even with the database that was intercepted by GSMInsider. Instead of a 7-inch screen like the Nexus 7, the Nexus 8 will be going for 8-inches. Google has been switching between several partners to create a tablet like Asus, HTC, and even LG.
The only detail regarding specs is that the Nexus 8 will be coming with the newest Android OS, the Android 4.5 or Lollipop. Since the Nexus 8 will be matching the iPad Mini 2 spec-wise, it might also sport a 64-bit processor. There are also rumors that Google won't be using Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor and instead go with Moorefield's 2.33GHz processors paired with PowerVR G6430 GPUs.
