Google Nexus 8 Release Date Rumors: HTC Scheduled to Announce New Smartphone August 19 In New York?

Exciting news for Android fanatics out there, Nexus 8 is set to be Google's newest tablet, a follow up to one of their most popular tablets on the market, the Nexus 7. According to rumors, the new Nexus 8 tablet is said to be released relatively soon.

An unnamed source of the Android Geeks website said that Nexus 8 would be announced in July and at the Google I/O Developer conference, but the alleged Dublin-based Google employee was apparently wrong, as the device didn't make an appearance at the event.

With that rumor behind them, fans are now looking to HTC for an announcement of the device on August 19 in New York. The company is speculated to have ties with Google about the Nexus 8, but reports suggest that HTC is more likely to unveil a Windows Phone version of the One M8 Android smartphone.

The product name remains unofficial and is known by different titles. Nexus 8, Nexus 9, HTC Volantis and HTC Flounder are a few names associated to the upcoming product. It was said that because of the phone's 8.9-inch screen, some have referred to the tablet as the Nexus 9.

Some reports have also surfaced saying that the phone will have a 2560 x 1600p display, a 64-bit NVIDIA Tegra chip, 4GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera, and a 1.6 megapixel front camera and an optional LTE.

Additional speculation suggests that the new Nexus 8 will be announced when the new Android version is released. Google is reported to launch Android L which may likely arrive in autumn. The product is also rumored to be announced in October and November since the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat were launched last year in those months.

On a side note, Nexus 8 has passed certification in South Korea, which brings it one step closer to it's highly anticipated release.
