Google Nexus 8 Release Date: New Tablet with Android L Launching at HTC Event on Aug. 19?

Google is getting ready for the release of the Nexus 8, the next Android tablet to hit the market. The Nexus 7, the previous Android tablet from the search engine giant, was released in 2012 and till date remains one of the best Android tablets available. Now, it remains to be seen if the Nexus 8 can surpass is predecessor.

Earlier, it was rumored that the Nexus 8 would be announced at the I/O 2014 Developer's Conference this July, but that did not happen. Apart from the fact that it was not announced at the scheduled date, there were doubts whether Google would even release the device.

Currently, it is being speculated that the Nexus 8 will be released on August 19 in New York City in an event organized by HTC. This reinforces the rumors that HTC has been assigned the task of manufacturing the next Google tablet.

According to some reports, HTC has been working on an 8.9-inch tablet christened HTC Volantis, which was expected to be released at an upcoming HTC event. Now, some find that the Volantis could be released under the name Nexus 8 on August 19.

Besides the possible release of the Nexus 8 or Volantis during the upcoming HTC event, rumors are rife that HTC will utilize the occasion to officially showcase the company's wearable Smartwatch device called HTC One Wear. The latest wearable device will directly compete with LG's G Wear and Samsung's Galaxy Gear. The One Wear has been scheduled with a September launch.

It is also rumored that the Nexus 8 will come with Google's latest operating system software, the Android L.
