Google to Unveil Hobbit-Inspired Interactive Map App of Middle Earth

Ever wished you had a wizard friend like Gandalf to whisk you around the beautiful landscapes of Middle Earth. Well now you can without risking the chance of running into a horde of orcs.

Google is working on a new app, in coordination with the upcoming Hobbit movie release, that will allow users to explore iconic regions and cities found in Middle Earth. Partnering up with New Line Cinema, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Warner Bros., the new app will only be available for Google Chrome users.

Released by Google, here's the official description for Journey through Middle-Earth:

"Your adventure starts on a beautiful, interactive map of Middle-earth. Zoom in to explore Trollshaw Forest, Rivendell and Dol Guldur (with more locations to come in the next few weeks). Click on each one to learn its history and meet the characters who inhabit it, or dive further to test your wits on a unique survival challenge." 

In the teaser for the app, users ill be able to escape from trolls in Trollshaw, tend to the gardens of elven sanctuary Rivendell along with many more environments and chracters to interact with.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug scheduled for a December 13th release.
