Google Glass Release Date, Price: Reviews Praise Functionality, Criticize Battery Life

The revolutionary new google glass device is rumored to be inching closer towards a public release. Some consider it the next, highest innovation in consumer technology, others complain it may be impractical and run into issues of etiquette and privacy, as well as being far overpriced. What are the real details on the controversial new product? And what do we know about when it will officially hit the streets?

Google glass is going to be a huge innovation no matter what its flaws turn out to be. In 2012 rumors of the device with its functioning nickname "Google Goggles," indicated its apparently strange design as a pair of eyewear that allows you to tell the time, snap photos, take video and do many other things. Google Glass is now confirmed to be definitely in development with a momentum that makes it unlikely that the project will peter out.

The device is to feature a 640x360 resolution panel that sits above the eye. It has been compared to a smartphone worn on the head. It has a five megapixel camera and 720p video recorder. The device is given 156 GB of space to store data and allows for WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

There are as of yet few apps that can be applied directly to Glass. So far only a select few consumers, called Explorers, have been allowed to test the product, and those taking part have had to pay a daunting $1,500.

There is speculation that the Glass will ultimately fetch only as much as a high-end smart-phone, but many feel that the battery life is too low right now, and that there are an insufficient quantity of apps available to make it an instantaneous success. Some critics also contend that it will pose a major distraction during social interactions which will impinge the use of proper etiquette. Most Explorers, however, found this not to be an issue as users simply forgot about the device in those situations, not even considering it a peripheral worry.

There is, as of yet, no specified release date, and the final outcome of the Google Glass hitting the market will have to be a mystery until then. We don't know how intense of a reaction there could be, but some have even claimed an effect on the technological marketplace revolutionary in scale.
