Google Glass Project: Price, Specs, Release Late 2013 / Facebook, Twitter Added to Glasses Apps [DEMO VIDEO]
Google Glass is a wearable computer that users can mount on their head. Though Project Glass is still in the developmental phase, the buzz has been through the roof for the new hands free device.
Google has confirmed the glasses will eventually be available for users with prescription glasses.
The Explorer Edition of Google Glass was distributed to developers earlier in 2013 for $1500 each. Once believe to be priced around the same as current smartphones, it's evident now Google Glass will come at a much higher price tag.
At the Internet search company's annual developer conference in San Francisco on Thursday, Google announced a handful of apps that would be available on Google Glass. Social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook were among the apps announced. Popular news outlets like CNN and Elle will be featured as well.
Google Glass hardware will include a 5 megapixel camera with the option of taking photos or recording 720p HD video. A touch pad on the right side of the headset allows users to swipe through different menus displayed on the screen.
Here's a list of Google Glass specs (Explorer Edition):
Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
Bluetooth
12/16GB storage options
682MB RAM
Android 4.0.4 (with periodical software updates)
Besides the touchpad, Google Glass users can control tasks using "voice actions." We're still unsure if "voice actions" will be able to control more complex tasks. Chances are the "voice" intelligence will probably be on par with Apple's Siri. Simple tasks like, "record a video" or "send a message to Mom" will be the main function.
