Google Glass 2015 News, Rumors: Loses Support, Device is Major Flop?
While many of Google's products and much of their software turned out to majorly successful in the year 2014, one device brought about some bad news for the Mountain View-headquartered tech titan.
The device that may not have turned out exactly as Google initially wanted, has apparently been receiving some flak from media and tech outlets about its poor performance and sour reviews.
In regards to the popularity of Google Glass, an article by CNBC reads, "excitement has waned in 2014 with experts suggesting it has missed its opportunity to become a major 'must have' consumer product."
While tech aficionados are looking for answers or clues as to why Google Glass didn't fare well in 2014, sources are saying that maybe the blame falls on software developers.
According to Business Insider, "Glass has 100 apps now. By comparison, the iTunes App Store had 1.2 million apps as of last June."
There's a good chance that developer backing is at the heart of the problem when thinking about the future of Google Glass. Evidently, it seems like software developers don't feel it's worth it to put in an effort to make a program for the wearable tech.
On that note, Twitter recently went ahead and stopped their development on an app for Google Glass last October. However, they're not the only ones to step out of the running in that regard.
Reuters has apparently made contact with 16 app developers, and nine of which have said that they are no longer making apps for the device because of its poor sales.
Stepping into other issues with the device, many developers have complained about its poor battery life. Before any support or backing can build up for Google Glass, the company is going to have to patch up a lot of the holes and flaws.
To make matters worse, Venture Beat reported that Babak Parviz, the creator of Google Glass, stepped away from the company to work for Amazon.com last July.
As it stands, there's no telling if Google Glass is going to recover from the recently deepened wounds it has been dealt by means of its poor performance and its sad market popularity.
