'Only God Forgives' Starring Ryan Gosling Too Violent? Fans at Showings Booed & Get up and Walk Out
Only God Forgives
One of the most controversial films of the summer of 2013, Only God Forgives, will soon be released. The film is a boxing crime thriller directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. This horrifically violent movie is about a brother, Billy, played by Tom Burke, who is suddenly murdered. His mother wants his brother, Julian, played by heart throb, Ryan Gosling, to take revenge on his murder. Julian runs a boxing club in Bangkok as a front for a drug ring which he and his brother run. The story line moves around Julian's confrontation with Billy's murderers.
Movie goers at pre-release shownigs have been appalled and even repulsed at the bloody violence that takes place on the movie screen. Julian becomes crazy with blood-thirsty rage and vengeance. The brutality that is shown in despicable scenes of atrocious violence will stun and shock most audiences. While some have called this film "brilliant", many reviewers have felt that the violence goes too far and seems unjustifiable for most people to accept. Some showings have had many in the audience "boo" at the film and get up and walk out of the theater.
It definitely depends on what you expect to be watching going in and how much violence and blood you can handle without getting disturbed.
Gosling only speaks a few lines in the whole movie and his character stays motionless the whole movie.
Everyone who attends this summer showing will have to decide for themselves whether they feel it goes beyond what is reasonable.
Only God Forgives releases on July 19th. Will you be seeing it?
