Good Morning America newscaster Robin Roberts publicly and subtly revealed her sexual orientation on Facebook over the weekend.

"I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together," said the 53 year old anchor.

Roberts' family and colleagues had previously known about her relationship with Amber prior to her announcement yesterday, but this was the first time Roberts ever publicly made a comment about her orientation.

People magazine reports Roberts' girlfriend as Amber Laign, an accredited massage therapist from San Francisco. They have been dating ever since they met through shared acquaintances over 10 years ago, People reports.

When President Barack Obama revealed his backing of same-sex marriage, he selected the ABC News journalist to conduct the discussion in May 2012.

According to CNN, Roberts has kept few secrets about her health. She wrote and spoke at length about her battle with breast cancer in 2008 and again in 2012 when she undertook a bone marrow transplant to treat a rare blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome.

"At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude," wrote Roberts via Facebook marking the first anniversary of the 100th day of her recovery from the transplant.. "I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold. On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too."
