Girl Fatally Shot on School Bus, 15- Year- Old Shooter Accused of Manslaughter
A 13 year-old Florida girl was fatally shot on her school bus on Tuesday. According to Police, the shooter has been charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed weapon.
This shocking event took place on a school bus in Homestead, FL. The bus carries students to various charters schools in the area. Early Tuesday morning 15-year -old Jordyn Alexander Howe removed a gun from his backpack and began showing it to other students. The gun was fired, hitting Lourdes Guzman-Dejesus in the neck. She was airlifted to Miami Hospital, but later died.
The gun was recovered at the scene and Howe was taken into custody. It is unclear whether the gun was fired accidentally or on purpose. The bus was not equipped with a surveillance camera at the time of the incident. There were 8 other students, including the victims 7- year- old sister, on the bus at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured and all of the occupants were taken to the police station to be questioned.
"It's traumatic for them for what they had to witness to begin with and now you're going to have to question them to ask them exactly what they saw, you know, it's tragic. Anytime it deals with a child, and then, of course, when we get the phone call that they confirmed that she passed away, it's very sad." said Officer Alvaro Zabaleta in a statement to CNN affiliate WPLG.
