'Gilmore Girls' Netflix Revival Release Date News, Rumors: New Photos Revealed, Remake Sued By Original Producer?
In line with Netflix's upcoming "Gilmore Girls" revival, the network has released a first look on the cast. However, the project's original producer reportedly sued the upcoming reboot.
On Apr. 11, Netflix released some photos featuring what fans can expect from its upcoming "Gilmore Girls" remake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project reboot will see Rory catching up with her grandmother Emily Gilmore at a presumed Friday night dinner. Another photo featured Rory talking to students inside a classroom and it is unclear whether she has returned to Chilton as a teacher or just a guest speaker.
Also, Lorelai and Luke are seen sitting beside each other in a town meeting. The said meeting also saw Babette as part of the crowd. The former two is also seen holding hands while walking in another photo, which suggests that a growing relationship between the two.
In other news, original "Gilmore Girls" producer Gavin Polone was not happy with the upcoming project remake, as he reportedly sued the upcoming Netflix show, according to Entertainment Weekly.
On Apr. 8, Polone filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television for breach of contract, demanding at least $195,000 due to damages. As per the complaint, the original "Gilmore Girls" producer was in charge of the development of the 1999 show, along with Amy Sherman-Palladino as series creator. As executive producer, Polone's contract permitted him to $32,500 for every episode produced following 2003, along with a portion of the show's revenues.
As for Warner Bros. TV, the company refused to pay Polone's demands, as they classified the "Gilmore Girls" remake as a "derivative work" based on the "Gilmore Girls" series. As per the papers, the firm did not view the four part show as a television series, since they are being yielded for Netflix and not for a conventional broadcast network.
"Gilmore Girls" remake is set to have four episodes, with titles corresponding to the four seasons - "Winter," "Spring," "Summer," and "Fall." All episodes are set to run for 90 minutes each.
Netflix's "Gilmore Girls" is set to air in the latter part of 2016.
