Gerrit Cole is aiming for his first career MLB win in his first career MLB start in tonight's away game in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Cole has already earned the respect from his teammates leaving Triple A with a 5-3 record, and 2.91 ERA.

"I caught him a couple of times in spring training, and I like his makeup and his attitude," Martin told the team's official website. "In my opinion, he's going to be a good pitcher for a long time, so this will be start No. 1 of a hopefully long and prosperous career."

Cole's first start will be against last year's World Series champs, the Giants, who have been getting hot on offense as of late.

"We're a better offensive team than what we've been doing the last couple of weeks,'' says Giants skipper Bruce Bochy. "Every team goes through it. We went through a tough stretch here. It's good to see the bats come to life.''

The Giants will start former star Tim Lincecum against the Pirates, whose bats have not been heating up. The Pirates haven't scored more than two runs in 8 of the last 12 games.
