‘Ghostbusters’ Movie Cast News, Rumors: Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, Linda Cardellini to Star?
Director Paul Feig confirmed on Twitter that he is on-board with the new 'Ghostbusters' movie, and is casting three females for the lead roles.
In a tweet posted on Oct. 9, Feig also revealed that Katie Dippold will be joining him in writing the screenplay for the new franchise. He knows who he's "gonna call," the tweet said.
The idea for an all-female cast was first heard in August, and Feig began dropping hints about its possibility weeks after.
Fans have begun to speculate the actresses will take on the new characters. Bill Murray, who starred in the first two installments, gave a few names on who he'd like to see in the reboot.
"Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny -- God, she's funny," Murray said in an interview with The Toronto Star.
He also mentioned Emma Stone and Linda Cardellini, adding that "there are some funny girls out there."
McCarthy and Wiig had both starred in the Feig-directed comedy 'Bridesmaids'. Cardellini is known for her role on the TV series 'Freaks and Geeks', while Emma Stone will be seen in the upcoming movie 'Birdman'.
Stone, when asked to comment on Murray's suggestion, said, "That's very nice. I want to see Bill Murray in a female 'Ghostbusters.'"
Former 'The X-Files' star Gillian Anderson has also expressed great interest in joining the cast. Anderson responded to a question on an "Ask Me Anything" session on website Reddit about the news with, "Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I'm free!!!!!"
Mindy Kailing, who was not mentioned by Murray in his interview, created her own version of the female squad in her book 'Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?'
When asked about the reboot, she told New York Magazine's Vulture, "I love Paul, and I would never feign to take up his time by lobbying."
