Ghostbusters 3 Spoilers, Cast News: Dan Akroyd Says Original Cast To Return

The next installment to the Ghostbusters franchise has been given the greenlight. According to reports the third film in the series will have an early 2015 production, and likely be titled Ghostbusters 3.

Actor Dan Akroyd's recent appearance finally gave all the anxious fans a clear answer that 'Ghostbusters 3' will happen. Akroyd told City TV that the script is "great", the search for a director is on, and some of the original cast will return.

The 62-year-old Canadian actor, Akroyd, who played Dr. Raymond Stantz in the 1984 original and 1989 sequel, announces the plot will be based on new research being done in particle physics at the Columbia University, about a threat to the world through the four planes of existence: length, height, width and time and that the new Ghostbusters will have to come and solve a serious dilemma.

However, according to him, the film has encountered some problems with Sony Pictures.

In an interview with Global's the Morning show, Akroyd reveals that the studio is hesitant in giving the film a budget, "I think they should [but] I don't write that cheque... We hope that things get sorted out at the corporate level, all the way up and down the company, so that capital can be freed up for the artists to do their job," he said.

It has been 30 years since Ghostbusters was first shown in theaters, and current production of the third film does not yet have a director to final list of cast. Although Akroyd had mentioned that some of the original cast will return, the film is slow rolling and will probably need some time for it's released. However, at least fans of the series can be reassured that the film is confirmed as a definite go.
