George Clooney's human rights attorney wife Amal Clooney suggested her desire to use her newly established popularity for "good," allowing Mohamed Nasheed to undergo a back surgery in the United Kingdom.

In her interview with E! News, Amal said she thought it was wonderful that celebrities would have chosen to spend their time or energy or the spotlight that they had to raise awareness about some cause. Amal also mentioned that she did not really see herself in the same way because she was still doing the same job that she had used to before.

Amal added that if there was more attention paid for whatever reason to that, then she thought that was good. Amal also thought that there was a certain amount of responsibility that comes with a job, adding that she was exercising it in an appropriate manner by continuing to do the work.

Discussing her legal challenge, Amal also talked about calling for sanctions against members of Maldives' present regime to the point of her client Nasheed's independence.

On Jan. 17, The Maldives government revealed allowing former president Nasheed to fly to the United Kingdom for back surgery, according to NBC News. As per the publication, Nasheed had been imprisoned with a 13-year sentence for terrorism, which had drawn international vilification.

The Ministry of foreign affairs told the publication that Nasheed had been granted permission under the condition to serve the remainder of the sentence upon return to the Maldives after the surgery.

In her interview with the publication, Amal said that Nasheed needed a special kind of micro-surgery on his back, adding that the Maldives' ex-president was actually losing the ability to feel the left side of his body and he needed urgent surgery.

Amal added that the government had refused to allow him out to get the surgery abroad, which was where it would have been appropriate for it to be dispensed. For George's wife, Nasheed had not been able to get to a local hospital to have the surgery and it was a really concerning situation.
