Games with Gold Xbox Live; Free Games Promotion Update
Recently, Microsoft released a promotion that stated a test program would unlock a couple of Xbox One titles for 24 hours. However, this was just an apparent error.
Microsoft said that this promotion was simply based on an error. However, many thought they were testing a new featured named, "Free Play Day with Gold," which allows players to download and play exclusive Xbox titles for 24 hours only.
This was first mentioned in a Reddit thread wherein someone discussed the game, 'Max: The Curse of Brotherhood'. The Reddit thread stated that this game would be unlocked and free for 24 hours time.
However, the listing for the free trial of the game was an unintentional error by Microsoft, this means that there is no "Free Play Day" as of yet.
A spokesperson from Microsoft told CNET: "A promotional tile for "Max: Curse of the Brotherhood" was posted briefly on the US dash in error yesterday. We apologize for any inconvenience. We're constantly exploring different ways to offer more benefits to our Xbox Live Gold members and will keep them updated when special offers become available."
However, despite the alleged error, a couple of tweets from their Xbox support made it sound like the feature has potential.
When asked about the "free" feature, Xbox support initially seemed to be surprised, but their following response gave gamers a little bit of hope.
"@XboxSupport Not sure if "Free Play Day" is a new thing or not. Was just checking," said CallmePrestoFriend.
Microsoft's follow-up tweet said, "It's something that we're currently looking into. Keep an eye on your Xbox One."
