'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Premiere Date, Spoilers, News: Opening Credits Retain Kit Harington Despite Jon Snow's Death
Sunday's Hollywood premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 6, episode 1, titled "The Red Woman," retains in its opening credits the name of Kit Harington despite the on-screen death of his character, Jon Snow.
The straightforward, devastating statement "Jon Snow is dead" is taken from the synopsis of the first episode of the upcoming season. However, the fact that his name remains in the opening credits of the season means that fans will still see his character in season 6, even if that means his role is a corpse.
Despite the confirmation of Jon Snow's death, it has been revealed that actor Kit Harington will still appear in "Game of Thrones" season 6 as a corpse. Trailer for season 6 shows Jon Snow lying in a pool of blood, frozen in the very place where fans saw him last in season 5, brutally killed by the fellow members of the Night's Watch.
Last month, actor Harington confirmed that his role will continue on the HBO fantasy show as a corpse, teasing, "It's some of my best work."
In another interview, Liam Cunningham jokingly said, "He gives good corpse," referring to Kit Harington.
Early seasons of "Game of Thrones" included regulars in the credits even after their on-screen death, as long as their bodies still appeared on the show. An example was Steven Yeun, whose name was removed in the opening credits after his death, but was included again after it was revealed that he was alive.
"Game of Thrones" season 6 returns on April 24.
