Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman: Mixed Reactions on Superhero’s New Look
DC Comic's Wonder Woman has gotten a makeover, and with it, fans of the Amazon princess have given it some mixed reviews.
Gal Gadot's big screen debut in the upcoming Zac Snyder film, 'Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice', is set to transform the traditional Wonder Woman ensemble made popular by TV's Lynda Carter in 1975's 'Wonder Woman'. The original costume was a red, white, and blue leotard which came with the iconic cuffs that Wonder Woman was known for.
The new costume will feature Gadot in what looks like tough bronze armor that comes with matching thigh-high boots. Beyond that, the actress is pictured holding a sword, which is surely natural for the legendary DC heroine.
The new look was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, as Snyder shared Gadot's photo via Twitter.
Some fans embraced the changes, saying that Wonder Woman's costume was long overdue for a makeover.
Twitter user LaDawn McGinnis said, "I think Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman outfit is perfectly fitting for "Batman vs. Superman'. It's muted down, mysterious and sexy. Perfect."
J. Romero tweeted, "That looks like #WonderWoman to me! Can't wait to hear the complaints on this. Gal looks phenomenal in costume!"
On the other hand, other fans were disappointed, dismissing the costume as being very reminiscent of another female heroine, namely Xena the Warrior Princess. Some also commented on the fact that the actress was too petite to portray the iconic heroine.
Giletta tweeted,"*cries* I just saw the new Wonder Woman costume reveal. What the heck? They butchered it."
Another fan on Facebook asked, "Where is the powerful, strong Wonder Woman we all love? She looks way too small!"
Gadot hasn't been the only one in the cast to get some harsh criticism. Her co-star, Ben Affleck, got his share when he was tapped to portray Batman.
That criticism did not cause the excitement at Comic-Con to fade, as the main cast headed by Affleck, Gadot, and Henry Cavill (Superman), was present at the "Batman vs. Superman' panel.
"Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice' will premiere on May 6, 2016.
