'Frozen 2' Movie News: Elsa Actress, Idina Menzel, Confirms New Sequel in the Works

Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa in Disney's Academy Award-winning animated film 'Frozen', has recently confirmed that the sequel to the hit movie is officially in the works.

In a recent interview with the U.K.'s Telegraph, the actress and singer-songwriter, talked in length on the rumors related to 'Frozen 2' as well as its stage musical adaptation and said, "They're all in the works."

According to IGN, it is expected that Menzel will be reprising her character Elsa in the rumored sequel. In fact, Menzel has been identified so intimately to her Elsa character that young girls recognize her and approach the actress when they see her on the street. However, she is probably not going to feature in the theatrical production.

The Telegraph quotes the actress saying, "Ah, yeah sure... Not the stage show - I don't know what will happen with that - but the movie hopefully. We'll see. I'm just going along for the ride."

Meanwhile, Georgina Haig, who plays Elsa on 'Once Upon a Time', told IGN that she believed that Disney was working on a 'Frozen' sequel.

A report by KdramaStars says that earlier Walt Disney's CEO Bob Iger also confirmed that there was potential for a 'Frozen' sequel. He had further said that the studio is considering extending the 'Frozen' universe, which includes the stage adaptation.

The website quotes Iger saying, "There's a lot of active development. You will see 'Frozen' in more places than you see today. ... This has real franchise potential. We expect to see not just new product but continued interest in this and continued impact on the bottom line for quite awhile. Its success speaks volumes on the future of animation at our company."

A report by Forbes also suggested that a sequel to 'Frozen' is likely considering the box office collections from the original film. The report reads, "Disney foregoing another round in Arendelle is basically tantamount to passing up free money in the hundreds-of-millions. That they haven't out-and-out committed and may leave it without a sequel shows something vaguely resembling artistic integrity as a matter of company policy."

Beyond that, there are rumors that the cast of 'Frozen 2' may include Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, and Judi Dench.

It is worth mentioning here that 'Frozen' earned $1.2 billion from box office collections worldwide, and it continues to be the highest-grossing animated feature ever.

Meanwhile, Disney has announced that it will screen a six-minute short film teaser this Christmas entitled 'Frozen Forever'.
