Floyd Mayweather Next Fight News: Australian Anthony Mundine Projected for Championship Bout
There might be a man to finally break the undefeated record of boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. An Australian veteran by the name of Anthony Mundine might just be fighter for the job as reports eye him to be the next contender against the mighty Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mundine is said to be the number one challenger for the current holder of the WBC title, Mayweather. The 39-year-old boxer, Mundine, got the WBC silver light middleweight title upon winning against his previous opponent Sergey Ranchenko, so he might just make the cut against Floyd.
"He's a young lion," Mundine told the press about his fight against Ranchenko, "The man can punch and he's probably the best body puncher I've ever faced. But I outboxed him," he added. Apparently, it was a split decision and Mundine gaining favorable results.
"It was do or die," he said adding, "He had a couple of great rounds but I thought I won the last two rounds and got the victory." After the fight, several reports now speculate that Mundine gained potential to be Mayweather's next opponent.
Meanwhile, the boxer himself thought of Mayweather as the best and his desire to fight him. "I think Floyd is the best and it's up to him if he wants to fight me," Mundine previously said to the press.
Although he is impressed with the undefeated champion, he nevertheless doubts that its the time for the fight.
"We want to put pressure on the WBC," Mundine told Fox Sports, "I'm the mandatory so I want (Mayweather) to fulfill his obligation to fight me," he added.
"But listen, Mayweather is Mayweather. I'm not going to disrespect him. He's the best in the sport, he can choose who he wants to fight, who he's going to make the most money from. He probably doesn't think I've earned my right yet and I probably haven't - I'm the first to admit that," He continued.
