Floyd Mayweather Next Fight: Maidana Rematch September 2014

Following several months of speculation regarding who will be the next opponent for the five-division world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, it has been decided that he will fight the Argentine boxer Marcos Maidina in a rematch scheduled for September 13 in Las Vegas.

The news was tweeted by The Money himself, who posted, "#Mayhem Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 September 13, 2014 MGM Grand in Las Vegas Live on Showtime PPV," uploading a photograph of their last fight along with the message.

In their previous fight on May 3, Mayweather beat Madina by a majority decision. Nevertheless, many believe that the fight was perhaps the toughest in Mayweather's entire career or at least in the last decade. They believe that this time Mayweather will have to prove his superiority once again with it in his mind to silence the critics during his rematch against Madina.

Releasing an official statement, Mayweather remarked, "Marcos Maidana is a tough customer and he gave me a fight that had me work for the victory. His style is difficult at best, but with experience comes a way and will to win. I'm not one to give second chances in the ring, but I want to give the fans what they want to see. I will be as prepared as I always am when I step in the ring on September 13. I only see the outcome one way and that's another successful night for me and my team."

On the other hand, Maidana also expressed his views on the upcoming fight in his statement that read, "The rematch with Mayweather is the only fight that really motivates me. I feel I earned it in the ring and Floyd owed it to me. I've already proved that I don't care if the man I have in front of me is the best pound-for-pound champion. I was close to ending his reign last time. On September 13 he will not get away undefeated."

A report in the USA Today said that the September 13 event will be the fourth fight in Mayweather's six-fight deal with Showtime. In fact, Mayweather's fight against Canelo Alvarez is recorded as "the highest grossing fight in boxing history."
