Floyd Mayweather Next Fight: Boxing Champ to Fight Amir Khan May 2015?
World boxing undefeated champion and five-division title holder Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly in talks to schedule a match against returning Bolton-born Olympic medalist boxer Amir Khan. Meanwhile, Mayweather still set to fight Argentinian professional boxer Marcos Maidana for the second time on September 17.
Mayweather was originally poised to have a face-off with Khan in September, but the latter withdrew due to religious beliefs which were conflicting with their fight. Maidana then won the bid for a rematch with the 10-time boxing champ Mayweather, which will be held in Las Vegas.
Boxing fans worldwide have endlessly called for a Mayweather-Pacquiao match, but were constantly let down due to disagreements between both parties in relation to the contracts governing the proposed fight. Manny Pacquiao currently holds 8 world boxing championships title and is dubbed as boxing's 'pound-for-pound' king.
Khan has already stated that if a match against Mayweather does not push through to May 2015, then the British boxing champ's camp will try to take on Manny Pacquiao for the May fight instead.
Meanwhile, Argentinian Marcos Maidana announced that he is willing to set a third rematch against Mayweather if he wins their September 17 fight. Both Maidana and Mayweather are now undergoing rigid training programs as their Las Vegas match draws nearer.
